Motuz Group
Motuz is an interdisciplinary quartet uniting improvised music, contemporary dance, and song reinterpretation, crafting bold, movement-driven performances that blur the boundaries between sound, choreography, and live storytelling.
Motuz is a Denmark-based interdisciplinary performance group blending improvised jazz, contemporary dance, and song reinterpretation into a unified artistic language. Formed in 2019 and developed through international collaboration, the quartet brings together voice, saxophone, double bass, and contemporary dance — four performers sharing equal musical and choreographic responsibility on stage. Rather than musicians accompanied by a dancer, Motuz operates as a true ensemble where sound and movement continually shape one another in real time.
The group reimagines well-known, meaningful songs as flexible frameworks for improvisation, allowing audiences to enter through familiarity while experiencing the material in a radically new form. Songs become a fifth member of the ensemble — reshaped, stretched, and rediscovered through movement-driven interpretation. Performances are sculpted live, unpredictable, and emotionally responsive, often described as cinematic, intimate, and powerful.
Motuz performs acoustically and adapts easily to theatres, art spaces, concert halls, clubs, and in-the-round settings. Appealing to audiences across jazz, contemporary dance, theatre, and performance art, the group offers an accessible yet boldly original encounter with interdisciplinary improvisation, presenting a distinctive voice within the European performing arts landscape.
