Mark Hurrell is a British saxophonist, composer, and bandleader based in Copenhagen, Denmark. With a sound that blends cinematic storytelling, high-energy improvisation, and deep groove, Mark has established himself as a dynamic force in the European jazz scene.
Born in Lincolnshire, England, Mark's musical journey began with classical training at the Royal College of Music in London before immersing himself in the world of jazz. His playing is rooted in the traditions of hard bop and modern jazz, yet his compositions explore rich harmonic landscapes and rhythmic complexity, drawing influence from his travels and collaborations across Europe.
Having performed extensively across the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and beyond, Mark leads several projects, including his own Mark Hurrell Quintet and the genre-defying Motuz Group. His debut album, set for release in 2025, showcases his signature blend of intricate compositions, expressive improvisation, and raw emotional depth.
